- Mapping of the genetic variability of Bacillus and other predominant genera in some extreme environments of the country

- Refine the taxonomy of Bacillus and Bacillus derived genera (otherwise diverse genus) in India and thereby identification of novel species/strains of Bacillus

- Bioprospecting microbes from extreme environments for their use as PGPR and for valuable genes

- Elucidation of adaptation mechanisms of the microbes under salt stress conditions and identification of relevant genes that could also be used to develop transgenics tolerant to abiotic stress.
