Deliverables - outputs

  • Development of database of Bacillus and Bacillus derived genera isolated from extreme environments. Generation of baseline information in the country.
  • Submission of DNA sequences in GenBank of native isolates and identification and distribution of Bacillusspecies will be deciphered in the country.
  • Development of Microbial inoculant based on Bacillus for horticultural crops
  • Micobe based technology for alleviation of salt stress for growth and yield of chickpea.
  • Identification of genes involved in osmoregulation and transportation of osmolytes in halophilic and acidophilic Bacillus species
  • Identification of new insecticidal genes that can be interweaved later in the transgenic projects of the country
  • Novel effective formulations of Bt strains

Outcome Impact
1 Diversity analysis and identification of Bacillus and predominant genera from various extreme environments.
  • Mapping of extent of total genetic variability of Bacillus and other predominant genera in some extreme environments of the country.
  • Advancement in Taxonmomy of Bacillus (otherwise diverse genus).
  • Identification of novel species/strains of Bacillus

The biodiversity of Bacillus and other predominant genera in the country will be preserved for future use.

Taxonomy of this complex genus will give impetus to taxonomy studies in the country.
2 Study of diversity of Bacillus and other predominant genera in crop association under extreme environment and its validationalysis of diversity Bacillus and other predominant genera from various extreme environments
  • Development of Microbial inoculant based on Bacillus for horticultural crops
  • Micobe based technology for alleviation of salt stress for growth and yield of chickpea.
Crop improvement through microbe based technologies and utilization of arable land under acid and salt stress
3 To understand the mechanisms of adaptation in Bacillus and mining of relevant genes.
  • Identification of genes involved in osmoregulation and transportation of osmolytes in halophilic Bacillus species
Improvement in basic understanding and identification of genes that can be used to develop transgenic tolerant to abiotic stress.
4 Selection of novel strains of Bacillus thuriengiensis and other Bacillus species with insecticidal properties and isolation of novel cry and other insecticidal genes.
  • Identification of new insecticidal genes that can be interweaved later in the transgenic projects of the country
  • Novel effective formulations of Bt strains

Indigenous insecticidal genes and their variants that can be further usd in transgenic project.
